Kia Ora Ake

May they (our tamariki) be better,
be stronger, may they have wellbeing

“Kotahi te koohao o te ngira e kuhuna ai te miro maa, te miro pango, te miro whero” – “ There is but one eye of the needle, through which white, black and red thread must pass”.

This tonikura was spoken by Kiingi Pootatau, the first Maaori Kiingi, at the Ngaaruawaahia ceremony anointing him as such. It has implications for both the making of connections and the collaboration that must ensue as we work towards supporting a common vision.

Kia ora ake - What we do

Since 2024, Kia Ora Ake has been providing support to children / tamariki in Counties Manukau, from when they start primary school, to the end of the intermediate years. It aims to promote wellbeing, improve hinengaro and provide a range of interventions for positive mental health at the earliest opportunity. The central vision of Kia Ora Ake is a demand for taurite and ooritetanga (equality and equity) of equal hinengaro (mental and emotional) wellbeing for all tamariki.
